Selling
Selling your possesions at Gildings`s Auctioneers is an easy and often rewarding experience. Our expert advisors are on hand to assess the value of your objects and explain the auction process in more detail.
Valuations
Experienced valuers are on hand at the Roman Way salerooms to evaluate your discoveries, be they family heirlooms or oddments from the attic or cellar. This service is free and without obligation. If your objects are too large or numerous we can arrange for a valuer to visit your home.
Submitting Objects
Should you wish to include items in forthcoming sales these objects may be consigned and will be held in readiness for an appropriate auction sale. Gilding`s comprehensive sales programme enables us to allocate individual lots in collective or specialist auctions so as to realise the best possible price. In total we auction over 25,000 lots each year.
Reserves
A reserve price means that your item will not be sold unless bidding meets or exceeds the reserve set. Our expert valuers can advise reserve amounts where required based on the estimated sale prices. Please note that a buying in fee of 5% may be charged on reserves.
The Sale
Cataloguing
Each lot is catalogued by Gilding`s expert valuers by recording a full description and estimated value for each. Catalogued items are allocated an appropriate sale, collected together with items of a similar nature an then assigned individual lot numbers. This information is used to create the printed and internet catalogues including photographs of suitable lots.
Advertising
Each sale is advertised well in advance of sale day, in national and local press, on the internet and through Gildings own marketing programmes.
Viewing
The saleroom is open to the public (aged 18 and over) on set days prior to sale day. This allows prospective buyers time to fully inspect goods they wish to bid for. If viewing dates are inconvenient a buyer can request full reports on the condition of lots from Gilding`s.
Sale Day
Each lot is offered for sale, in turn, by the auctioneer who will accept bids from bidders in the room, registered telephone bidders, the internet and those who wish the auctioneer to bid on their behalf (up to a maximum amount). The highest bidder will win that lot, making payment and collection for all their lots when finished for the day.
Unsold Lots
If an item is unsold, you may be asked to collect it from the saleroom or you may wish to present it in another sale. If the lot had a reserve you may wish to offer the item for sale with a lower reserve price, or choose to sell it to the highest bidder.
Payment
Once your items have sold and payment is received, Gilding`s will issue a cheque and statement listing all of your items, detailing the hammer price minus all fees and post them to your address.
