Asian Art

The Asian Art market generates some particularly strong results at auction, with buyers from China and Japan actively buying fine sculpture, ceramics, and objects for their collections. The quality of art works produced in Far Eastern countries during the 18th and 19th centuries rivals that of Europe. Antique or modern items of porcelain, ceramics, bronze sculpture, cloisonné enamel ware, textiles, jades, weapons and armour, religious sculpture and iconography all have strong followings and generate lots of interest at auction.

Buying & Selling with Gildings Auctioneers

We handle hundreds of lots of Asian Art each year with the majority of lots being offered in our fortnightly Antiques & Collectors Auctions. The more important pieces are sold in our Fine Art Auctions of which we hold three a year.

When we offer works of Asian Art for sale we understand that there are a significant number of buyers worldwide and our online catalogue includes comprehensive descriptions and high quality photographs alongside comments on condition so that buyers can make well informed decisions regarding their bidding. We host live bidding on three platforms covering the globe including Live! on our own website www.gildings.co.uk. Buyers can also arrange telephone bidding directly with our team and leave written absentee bids if preferred. All Asian Art auctions are available to view at our saleroom in Market Harborough with great rail (direct to London in 60 minutes) and road links.

If you would like to be kept informed of our Asian Art auctions, sign-up to our dedicated newsletter. We will alert you to upcoming auctions, consignment closing dates, and other relevant  news and valuation days. Or if you’re looking for something specific, create an account and set up a Lot Alert-we will send you a notification of anything meeting your criteria coming up for auction with us.

Asian Art valuations

If you have pieces of Asian Art that you would like valued for auction it couldn’t be easier. You can submit an enquiry via our Valuations Form where you can upload images and details of your items.

From these images our valuers will be able to give an initial guide into likely auction value. You can share multiple files by emailing our Specialist directly, or alternatively book an appointment to see us in person. For larger collections and items a home visit may be arranged.

As with any valuation, certain factors will be crucial in determining a more accurate and realistic auction estimate. The condition of an item is especially important to dedicated collectors in this field. Not until our valuer has seen an item in person would the final auction advice be agreed.

Gildings can also provide professional valuations of Asian Art for insurance or probate purposes. As a professional valuation there would be a charge for this service. Please contact us to discuss further.
